Did you know Def Leppard made another video for their monster hit Pour Some Sugar On Me? Most of us are familiar with their concert video that was #1 on MTV's top ten countdown forever back in the late 80's, but they also produced this video for the U.K. audience. I have to admit, I'm obviously an 80's rock fanatic, but I don't think I ever saw this video. Enjoy!
The Cult's music can be described as simply "Kick Ass Rock 'n Roll." Here they are performing Love Removal Machine live in concert back in 1987 on the BBC. Enjoy!
Burning Heart was Vandenberg's highest charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It peaked at #39 on the Hot 100 charts in 1983. Burning Heart was the first single from their self-titled debut album. They went on to release two more studio albums, but none achieved the same success as their first. As you can see from this live performance, Adje van den Berg (Adrian Vandenberg), is one helluva good guitarist. He should look familiar to you since he was the lead guitarist for Whitesnake during the late 80's. Enjoy!
Norway's TNT may not be a household name to the casual 80's rock fan, but for hardcore 80's rock fans, this song should definitely ring a bell. Everyone's A Star was one of TNT's most popular songs. The video received a lot of airplay on MTV's Headbanger's Ball back in the late 80's. Enjoy!
Cutting Crew are on tour right now with Berlin, ABC, Missing Persons and Wang Chung in what is billed as the Regeneration tour. They played last night here in Atlanta at Chastain Park. I wasn't able to go, but a good friend of mine went and said it was great. He was a huge Cutting Crew fan back in the day, so he really enjoyed their performance. Here's their music video for (I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight, which was a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 charts back in 1986. Enjoy!
Domino was a single from KISS' 1992 Revenge album. Obviously, it wasn't released in the 80's, but I consider it an 80's song. This is one of my favorite KISS songs sung by Gene Simmons. Revenge was the first album KISS released after the death of drummer Eric Carr. Eric Singer was Carr's replacement on this album and stayed until '96 when original drummer Peter Criss returned. When Criss left KISS again in 2001, Singer came back. He's been their full-time drummer ever since except for a short stint in 2003 when Criss came back again. Due to the estranged relationship between Criss and Stanley and Simmons, I'm not sure if Criss will ever be back in KISS again. Enjoy Gene Simmons' homage to Sugar Daddies everywhere... Domino!
The Motel's Only The Lonely is probably played on classic radio more than any other Motel's song, but Suddenly Last Summer was actually their highest charting single. Back in 1983, Suddenly Last Summer went all the way to number one on the Billboard Modern Rock charts, and it peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, which is the same position that Only The Lonely peaked at a year earlier. So, where are The Motels now? Actually, they are out on a summer tour right now. However, the only original member in the current lineup is lead singer Martha Davis. Enjoy!
Here's a stat that amazed me. With all the success Night Ranger had during the early to mid-80's, they only had two top ten singles on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and only three top ten hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts. Sentimental Street and Sister Christian were the Hot 100 hits, and Don't Tell Me You Love Me was the other rock hit. Sentimental Street peaked at #8 on the Hot 100 and #3 on the Mainstream Rock charts back in 1985.
Like Sister Christian, Sentimental Street was another one of the rock ballads that Night Ranger became known for despite the band's desire to be considered a hard rock band. They really were a victim of their success. They wanted to release harder-edged songs, but radio was only interested in their ballads. Personally, I liked both their ballads and their harder stuff. Here they are performing Sentimental Street live in concert. Enjoy!
Luanne was a track from Foreigner's 1981 "4" album, which was Foreigner's only number one album. Luanne was never released as a single, but it was definitely a fan favorite at concerts as evidenced from this 1985 concert in Japan. Foreigner's still touring today, but without Lou Gramm at the helm, it's just not the same to me. Enjoy!
Like so many other late blooming hair bands, Every Mother's Nightmare released their self-titled debut album right at the end of the hair band era. Love Can Make You Blind started climbing the charts at the end of '89 and made it to #22 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts. Unfortunately, their star faded as fast as it ascended. By the time they were hitting their prime, grunge rock had already taken over the airwaves and MTV. But, at least they can say they had one big hit that's included on about every hair band compilation CD out there. Enjoy!
